Cruising to St. Thomas with the Kids

April 4, 2019

When your Eastern Caribbean cruises stops at St. Thomas what are your plans? Many families head straight to the beach for those hours that the ship is docked, and that's always a good plan because those beaches are beautiful! However, if you and your family are looking for something else to do, here are a few suggestions.

Coral World Ocean Park: This 5 acre Eco Marine Park is located on the North East side of the island at Coki Point and is really amazing! There’s a variety of activities and attractions with aquariums, underwater viewing of the Caribbean Sea, touch pools, reefs, nature trails and more. Plus, Coral World also has many activities you can add to your visit, such as SNUBA, sea lion, turtle and shark encounters and the semi submarine ride. My family loved Coral World!

The Skyride to Paradise Point: The tram to Paradise Point is just steps away from where your ship docks. It’s a fun and pleasant ride 700 feet up the mountain. The views from the top are incredible and there are shops, and a bar/restaurant where you can have lunch (it is a bit pricey). The shops carry one of a kind items made in the Virgin Islands such as clothing and local art. If you are able to go in the late afternoon and evening there is live island-flavored music.

Fort Christian: Constructed in 1680, Fort Christian was built to defend the Danish settlement. This National Historic Landmark is the oldest building in continuous use on St. Thomas and also served as the governor’s residence, a place of worship, a police station and now a museum. It’s a great place to learn some Caribbean history. Kids will enjoy running about and climbing around the fort.
